A common site on Britains roads and a numerous species found in a variety of habitats.
Primarily found in the middle of the road, where they form in long, seemingly endless, stationary feeding lines. Also found on grass verges, in ditches, on bus-stop roofs (more common in University towns) in canals (poor swimmers) and 'reserved' parking spaces outside older people's houses. Solitary juvenile males like to perch on the heads of statues.
Known to gather around half-dug abandoned holes, wonky road signage and broken telegraph poles.

As a species it is mainly dormant at all times, can be handled safely and is tameable. It makes a very popular pet with students due to its dormancy, colours and low maintenance upkeep.
